Final Report launch preparations well in hand

11 Jun 2009

Preparations for the launch of the Commission’s Final Report are well under way. The event will take place on Monday 15 June at Our Dynamic Earth, close to the Scottish Parliament in central Edinburgh.

Commission chairman Sir Kenneth Calman said:

“I am looking forward to delivering the results of over a year’s work to the people of Scotland on Monday. I believe that what we have come up with is a strong package that fulfils the challenging remit we were given. It includes important recommendations about improving the financial accountability of the Scottish Parliament, adjusting the distribution of powers and functions, improving inter-governmental relations, and about strengthening the operation of the Parliament itself. We agreed this report unanimously, and believe its recommendations will enable the Scottish Parliament to serve the people of Scotland better.

“My first formal task on Monday will be to hand over copies to the Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, and then to the Secretary of State for Scotland. After that, I will be joining my Commission colleagues at a launch event in Our Dynamic Earth to present the report to an invited group of MSPs, UK parliamentarians and some of the key figures who have contributed to our work.

“We expect considerable public and media interest in the launch of this report, which I am confident will shape the debate on how to take forward Scottish devolution in the light of 10 years of experience.”

The Final Report will be published on the Commission’s website at 9 am on Monday. Also published at the same time will be an Executive Summary, a Summary of Evidence, and a booklet (providing an accessible overview of the main conclusions).
