Questionnaire results show substantial support for enhancing devolution

20 May 2009

The full results of the Commission's questionnaire are published today, and show that 73% of respondents believe that devolution has produced better results for the people of Scotland.

Over 900 people filled in the questionnaire - either online on this website, or in hard copy. The questionnaire was open from September 2008 through to the end of March 2009.

The full published results include a full breakdown of all the results, together with four annexes setting out all the comments included.

Commenting on the results, Commission chairman Sir Kenneth Calman said:

"These results reinforce the message that we have received from other strands of our evidence-base - that a convincing majority of people recognise the positive contribution that devolution has already made, but that they also want to see some changes - in functions, in financial powers, and in intergovernmental relations. Of course, this is not a representative sample of the population, but it is a substantial level of input from people across Scotland and beyond. I would like to thank all those who have taken the trouble to fill in the questionnaire - I am particularly impressed by the number of interesting and thoughtful comments that have been included. All of them will help to inform the Commission's Final Report."
